New SMP modules were released on 11/13/22 at 3PM ET.
This holiday weekend from November 10 through 13, 2022, REC will be performing scheduled maintenance throughout our systems which will mainly impact FCCdata and the J1 mobile app.
Database Traffic Reduction Project (TRP): The Database TRP is intended to reduce the number of calls and the mangnitude of the calls made to the database by the various database applications through the storage of cached data in methods other than direct database access. This is intended to improve overall response time and address database availability issues.
FCCdata Site Makeover Project (SMP): The FCCdata SMP is intended to improve the FCCdata user experience by making changes to the look and feel of FCCdata through larger and clearer fonts and to improve the utility of the site when using mobile web browsers.
FCCdata
During this holiday weekend, we will be focusing on the display of FM facilities in FCCdata. This includes the use of cached FM application data as part of the TRP effort as well as improvements to the display of FM facility results a part of the SMP effort. At this time, we are planning to limit this weekend's project to United States (FCC) FM records. While most of this work will take place behind the scenes, there may be times when queries to FCCdata may result in error messages, missing contour maps or other unexpected results. If you experience these messages, we suggest that you try again in a couple of minutes.
During this holiday weekend, we will be focusing on the pop-out menu used by the mobile browser version of FCCdata to enter in facility information for searching. During this period of time, you may experience a complete loss of this functionality, error messages or other unexpected results. If you experience these issues, please revert to using a desktop based web browser for accessing FCCdata or if your mobile browser supports it, temporarily switching to desktop mode in your browser's configuration. The simple call sign entry on the front page is not expected to be impacted (but will not be available if you swich your mobile browser to desktop mode).
FCCdata will remain operational during this maintenance and most inquiries are expected to be fulfilled.
J1 Mobile App
The support services for J1 Radio share the same database infrastructure as the REC broadcast databases and as a result, each listener to any of the J1 streams using the J1 website (powered by Aiir) and the J1 mobile app (powered by Aiir) have been accessing database resources. This database access is used for the various support functions ancillary to the website and mobile app including the customized display of weather, chart, travel and "now playing" information as well as the J1 "ticker". We have already completed this work throughout the week for the J1 website. During the mainteance, we will be doing similar changes to the J1 Mobile App experience. During this time, mobile app users may experience difficulty accessing the additional information available through the site including train/traffic reports and music charts.
All J1 channels and mobile app functionality used to listen to these stations are not expected to be impacted by this maintenance.
We may move forward with other unannounced maintenance in support of TRP and SMP if time permits.
