REC Networks has released a new version of the LPFM Search Tool for the PC only. The mobile-friendly version will be updated at a later time.
The following updates were made:
SECOND ADJACENT CHANNEL WAIVER PART II
As a result of multiple requests for this functionality, REC has added second adjacent channel waiver functionality to all results, even those that have available channels not needing a second adjacent channel waiver.
REC has made changes on the left pane where the available channels are displayed. You will now see a green header message for main LPFM channel availability in one section and a yellow header message for second adjacent channel waiver potential in a separate section. Potential second adjacent channels will be identified on the result display with a yellow background.
When second adjacent channel waiver potential channels are available, there is now a link that allows you to switch from the overlap maps back to the LPFM service area map. This link will be found above the yellow "Second Adjacent" section header.
The Expanded Search table will now display locations where potential second adjacent channel waivers are available by using a yellow background and the character "S" in the cell. The "S" is clickable to run a channel search at that location. In past releases, these locations showed as red on the table.
OTHER CHANGES
A bug involving the zoom level of service area maps on the result screen, especially for LP10 stations has been resolved. We believe this was caused by a change in the Google API.
NOTES
This release was designed to work with Firefox 8 and has had minimal cross-browser testing in Internet Explorer 8. Functionality not working properly in Firefox 8 should be reported to REC.
REC will be making more changes to the tool when it becomes more apparent what the service rules will be or of a proponent (including REC) presents a significant proposal.
Please contact REC (mae@recnet.com) for any accessibility issues involving the user interface and screen colors (especially the expanded use of shades of yellow). REC currently does not have any way to test websites in JAWS for our users with visual impairments.
REC Second Adjacent Channel Waiver functionality only identifies channels where they are channels are only short spaced on second adjacent channel. Further engineering work is needed to determine the overlap areas and the population in the area to determine eligibility for a waiver. REC generated overlap area maps are for estimation only. The FCC has not developed rules or policies for second adjacent channel waivers for original construction permits.
