OK now, maybe I am overreacting here, but I take great offense to comments that were posted on the 2007 REC History page of what this website should be. Mainly, someone is offended due to the fact that you see references to roller derby, "hardcore" Japanese music and then has to bring my gender identity into play.
I want to make this clear to everyone who visits this site, if you are coming here expecting a website to be solely about broadcasting, then I am about to rain on your parade.
REC Networks is an entity that I started in 1984 that played recordings over the phone. Over the years, I have taken on many causes and interests. I have used the REC name in conveying those interests.
Look carefully at our slogan, it's on every page on this site:
Entertain - While this website is very heavy on broadcast data, we are about entertainment and creativeness FIRST. REC started as entertainment through the phone lines then onward to various website operations, streaming radio stations (we operated as many as 8 networks at one time) to today's roller derby content.
Inform - Providing information to the public is the second prong of what REC does. This is seen in the radio broadcast tools that are used every day. That is seen through the articles that I post and through the various causes that I take up. Interestingly enough, REC started in 1984, the website came up in 1995 and we did not start doing broadcast content until 1998.
Support - Supporting the community is what REC does when I file comments with the FCC. I see the various issues from a different angle. I sometimes side with the grassroots and there have been times that I have sided with the NAB on things. Support also includes the work that I have done for various causes including promoting diversity and non-discrimination, GLBT issues and the improvement of public transportation in the city where I live.
So if you have come here not expecting anything other than the FCC data, I do not apologize. I will not apologize for my history and I will not apologize for my current projects. As I mentioned on that response, I will not apologize for one byte of content on this site. There's content on here from the old days that I am not proud of (see the reference to it in our diversity statement) but as I mention there, I refuse to deny the history of REC. We must learn from our past to steer our future.
Not everyone is going to agree with me for what I do outside of radio, does that give you a reason to throw me under the bus?
