REC Networks has relaunched FMFIND.info today. FMFIND is a consumer friendly tool that allows users of satellite radio receivers, iPod extenders and other low power Part 15 devices that broadcast in the FM broadcast band to be able to locate a suitable channel that would avoid receiving interference from full power broadcast stations and FM translators.
FMFIND was started in 2006 originally in response to the hobbyist community who were using Part 15 transmitters such as those manufactured by C.Crane and Belkin to relay audio sources or very low power broadcast stations.
By the end of 2006, REC reached an exclusive agreement with SIRIUS Satellite Radio (now Sirius/XM) that would in part provide SIRIUS exclusive rights to REC's Part 15 search technology. As a part of that agreement, REC would not provide Part 15 searches and drive traffic to SIRIUS. At the end of 2008, the two year agreement with SIRIUS ends and after a one-year waiting period, REC may start providing FMFIND.info services again.
The relaunched FMFIND has the same look and feel of the site just prior to the exchange to SIRIUS. FMFIND uses data from the REC FCC CDBS broadcast database and is revised every Saturday.
