June is approaching fast and that means the start of hurricane season. REC is once again getting geared up to assist stations in the event the unfortunate happens.
REC has made some systems improvements that automates most of our DIRS activation reporting processes. This includes a new back end system that we will use to get information out.
REC has updated its Disaster Information Page that will automatically provide information during a DIRS activation including the counties covered by the activation, information on which LPFM stations are in the DIRS reporting area and the ability to provide alerts from the National Weather Service and Emergency Alert System (EAS) participating public agencies for the activated impacted areas.
A DIRS activation will also display on our Media Bureau dashboard site, fcc.today
In the event of a DIRS activation, REC will provide services to FM broadcast stations (all classes and types) to file silent notifications, silent special temporary authorization requests and emergency engineering STAs. For broadcast facilities that have had a previous REC spend of at least $350, these services will be provided free of charge. For all other facilities, our normal Rate Card will apply.

DIRS is the FCC's Disaster Information Reporting System. DIRS is used to advise the FCC about the availability of communications infrastructure. Using DIRS by broadacst stations is voluntary but REC does encourage its use. Reporting in DIRS does not replace the need to file a silent notification, silent STA or engineering STA.
REC Networks can be reached at 202 621-2355 or from Puerto Rico at 787 334-3199. REC does not have Spanish language support by voice. Please use email instead.
For now, please prepare and stay safe and stay tuned to REC through our websites and social media channels for further updates and information.
