REC Networks has reinstated our System 40 Project.
Originally started in October, 2023 and then previously cancelled, REC is in the process of implementing System 40 as part of REC Networks' 40 year anniversary.
The objectives of the System 40 Project include:
- The transition of the REC Universe from multiple shared server environments to a single dedicated server environment which will offer a substantially increased system memory and storage space in an effort to improve the system speed and efficiency.
- An upgrade to a much newer operating system.
- An upgrade of our primary Content Management System (CMS) to Drupal 10 or 11 and the transition of as much content as possible.
- The migration of the REC DataStore to the new server environment.
- The rewriting of the various REC systems including both those that are currently inside of the CMS and external to Drupal to work with PHP 8.
- To address the current issue with connectivity from Viasat.
- To address other Digital Ocean related issues.
- Eliminate functionality that is no longer used or needed.
- Post-transition overall cost savings to REC.
Over the next few months, REC will be releasing information on our main website through the operational update with information on system outages. All systems wil be tested before they are transitioned.
REC will eventually publish an order of transition.
System changes will be published in the Changelog. A separate site may be established for the purpose of communicating System 40 transition information.
This transition will result in a period where two separate eLMS environments will be operated. This may impact our daytime update schedules. Separate information for FCC OMD staff will be provided on REC's eLMS network information page.
REC appreciates everyone's patience during this transition.
