The Federal Communications Commission has released a public notice announcing the dates for the LPFM filing window for new stations. This time, it will be a single nationwide window that will be open from October 15 through October 29, 2013.
The FCC has also released the new Form 318. This is the form that must be filed electronically during the window.
The FCC reminds everyone that those who are eligible to apply for and hold LPFM authorizations include non-commercial educational organizations, tribal organizations and municipal governments. An individual can not apply for an LPFM license. LPFM applicants are limited to one application during the window. Tribes may file two and municipal governments may apply for multiple licenses as part of a public safety traveler's information service.
REC to offer a "premium" channel search service
For this window, REC Networks will be providing more substantial channel searching services for those applicants who are serious but are not ready to retain a full engineering service.
For a fee of $100, REC will personally evaluate available channels for a particular location. This includes a full service (human) review of the site and the potential of channel availability in that area. The deliverable would be a report that can be presented to a board for approval to proceed with engineering services or as a first step into filing a "DIY" application this October.
REC will check the availability of the most viable channels (up to 5) at a specific location and will even perform pre-window follow up in the event of any changes to primary stations that may impact the availability of LPFM in the future.
